George Washington's own beer recipe is tried and tested
A tasting of the beer made from George Washington's own recipe was held on May 18 at one lucky Manhattan pub. The formula has been kept for years in the New York Public Library, but the handwriting was only recently identified as that of the Founding Father himself. Brewers Josh Knowlton and Peter Taylor are now teaming up with Shmaltz Brewing Company of New York to create a modern version of the porter in an exclusive, 60-liter batch. According to marketing director Jennifer Dickey, if the brew is well received, it could be put into large-scale production.
