George Washington’s beer recipe to be recreated
The first president of the United States was a man of many trades - and in between beating the English and being the founding father of American democracy, George Washington brewed his own beer.
Washington’s handwritten recipe for the patriotic brew, found in his “Notebook as a Virginia Colonel” and published by the New York Public Library, will be recreated at the Library’s Centennial Gala on May 23.
25 gallons of the concoction - dubbed Fortitude’s Founding Father Brew - will be brewed for a pre-tasting at a Manhattan bar on May 18.
