No Iranian Warships Scheduled to Cross Suez Canal, Official Says

Feb. 17 (Bloomberg) -- No Iranian warships have applied to cross through the Suez Canal, an official said, a day after Israel’s foreign minister warned that sending such ships through the waterway to Syria would be a provocation.

The Suez Canal Authority’s head of traffic, Ahmed El Manakhly, said that Iran hasn’t applied to the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for permission to send gunboats through the canal. He spoke by telephone.

“We have no information about these ships,” El Manakhly said in a telephone interview.
