Assange battles against extradition to Sweden

Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange braces itself with all means against his extradition to Sweden.

To start a court hearing on Monday in London, his legal team presented to the human rights lawyer Geoffrey Robertson and the Star Mark Stephens, a 35-page defense strategy on the Internet. More fundamentally it: The EU wide arrest warrant for Assange does not apply.

In Sweden there are no charges against AssangeWhich is not relevant for such a warrant requirement. Moreover, the prosecutor Marianne Gothenburg Ny not the right way for an EU-
promote wide arrest warrant, Robertson argued. A former Swedish judge and law professor, said today in court, the case against Assange was from the beginning "weird" was.

The Swedish justice system has so far only a preliminary investigation against Assange initiated. He is accused in August 2010 in Stockholm have had unprotected sex with two women, although both had insisted on using a condom. One woman said to have approached her as she was still asleep, which can be interpreted as rape in Sweden. The trial in London on Monday was accompanied by a huge media contingent. A crowd of Assange-
Supporters, including human rights activist Bianca Jagger cheered for their idol.

The hearing before Belmarsh Magistrates Court to be continued on Tuesday. Until a decision is announced on the extradition Assange, but could still take up to ten days. Then both sides to appeal have brought before a court of appeal, so that could drag the final decision for weeks or even months.

The Assange-
Advocates argue, among other things, the alleged actions did not meet the minimum requirements for extradition, because it constitutes less serious offenses. In Sweden, the rape term is broader than in other countries. Therefore, it is indeed very common in Sweden for investigation of rape, but in very few cases to a prosecution. This is also in the case Assange currently not available.

The Assange-
Group is also concerned subsequent delivery of its clients in the USA and even the imprisonment of the Guantanamo prison camp in Cuba. This is from Sweden easily than from Britain. This view is not shared by all the legal experts. For extradition, it should first of all criminal proceedings in the United States against Assange To give what is still not the case.

On Tuesday awaited the testimony of a Swedish ex-
Senior Public Prosecutor expected as a witness. Sven- Erik Alhem confirmed on Monday in the newspaper Expressen that he should be an "expert witness".

Alhem, the actions of the Swedish judiciary against Assange among other things, criticized the first case dealt with the prosecutor's name was passed on immediately to the Australian media. The very different treatment by three successive competent prosecutors he considers inadequate: "If I had been in charge, there would have been a different course."

Assange had been spared for a deposit of 240,000 pounds (288 000) € of the detention. He currently lives under strict conditions from a friend in southeast England. Meanwhile, he called on the government of his native Australia to create conditions for his return.
