A Russian transport plane carrying humanitarian aid to Libyan refugees arrived on Sunday in Tunisia, Russia's emergencies ministry said.
"An Il-76 plane landed at the airport in Djerba [Tunisia]. It delivered food supplies, including baby food, and tents for Libyan refugees in Tunisia," the ministry's spokesman told RIA Novosti.
Inspired by the recent ouster of authoritarian regimes in Tunisia and Egypt, opponents of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi have revolted against his 41-year rule. More than 2,000 people have been killed in clashes between protesters and pro-Gaddafi forces that began in the North African country on February 15.
Over 100,000 people have fled the violence and crossed the Libyan-Tunisian border since February 20, according to the Red Cross.
The UN has accused Gaddafi's regime of systematic violation of human rights and suspended the country from its Human Rights Council.
